Hospice fundraisers have been rewarded for their commitment and dedication in a difficult economic climate with an ‘away day of fun.’
The team of 12 members of the Severn Hospice appeals departments was invited by Shukers Land Rover to experience their off-road track at the dealership’s Battlefield Road, Shrewsbury-based premises.
The invitation came from Shukers Land Rover managing director Vernon Hogg who is also a Severn Hospice trustee.
He welcomed the Hospice party to the dealership and said the fundraising team had ‘well earned the break’ from their ‘exceptionally busy duties.’
Norma Ross, Severn Hospice appeals director, said the 12 members of the team were mainly part-time and responsible for supporting hundreds of local fundraisers. They also prepared the claim to recover Giftaid of some 25% on all qualifying donations.
“The team is very proud of our ratio of over 92p in every pound donated going to patient care, said Norma.
“Severn Hospice depends upon legacies and donations to fund the care of local patients. Last year this small team banked over £3 million and together with the hospice supporters played a major part in making this vital service available locally,” she explained.
Norma said the Hospice’s two appeals departments, based in Shrewsbury and Telford, had been ‘swimming against the current in the current economic climate to bring in money.’
“They have been working particularly hard and when Shukers Land Rover offered the off-road experience as a reward and acknowledgement of the commitment of the hospice behind-the-scenes team we felt it was a great idea.
“It’s a personal thank you from Vernon Hogg and Shukers Land Rover to those who make sure every donation is looked after well.”
She added that every member of the team ‘thoroughly enjoyed their special treat.’
Adrian Lenc, Shukers Land Rover’s corporate manager, said the idea of the visit was to ‘have fun’ and he and colleague Kevin Gough, logistics manager, took the Hospice team on a number of off-road track drives in a Range Rover and Discovery.
Adrian also introduced an unexpected challenge for the hospice fundraisers. They took part in a Defender ‘water bucket’ drive around the perimeter of the off-road track with a prize for the person having the most amount of water left in the bucket which was placed above the driver’s seat.
