A motor dealership boss has appealed to local companies to continue their support for charities.
Vernon Hogg, managing director of Shukers Land Rover, said it was imperative that the local community did not fail charities at this time.
“In tough economic conditions the first thing people do is to cut their budgets and their donations to charity,” said Vernon who is also a trustee of the Severn Hospice.
“Charities can’t suddenly halve their costs – they remain the same. So it is important that the local community supports charities like the hospice.
“Charities are seeing a marked downturn in donations, but Shukers will honour their commitment to the hospice as evidenced by our latest donation.”
He was speaking at a presentation to Norma Ross, appeals director of the Severn Hospice, at the Shukers Land Rover dealership, Battlefield Road, Shrewsbury.
Shukers is pledged to a five year programme worth £2,500 to the hospice and Vernon made the fourth payment in this agreement.

Said Norma: “Shukers has been a loyal supporter of Severn Hospice and we are very grateful to the company for their thoughtfulness.
“This latest donation of £500 will provide access to our Day Hospice and its many facilities for a local patient for a month.
“Patients’ relatives also appreciate this for while their loved one is at Severn Hospice they have a rare opportunity to recharge their batteries.
“I would like to thank all involved at Shukers Land Rover for their continued support.”
She added: “Our patients and their families greatly appreciate our caring team and although care is provided totally free of charge it is not without cost. We are dependant upon legacies, donations and help in so many ways for our local community.”
