Subaru has delighted its fan by announcing that the new WRX STI will be imported into the UK this summer.
Following on from the Subaru Impreza, this latest performance car has been enhanced to offers significant improvements in driveability, design and safety. And if that wasn't enough to excite, due to recent movements in exchange rates, the WRX STI will be priced from just £28,995, an incredibly competitive price considering the specification of this model.
After first being unveiled at the Detroit motor show on 14th January, it is clear that the latest Subaru has been fashioned on the WRX saloon with a sportier end result. Rear spoiler, diffuser and dual exhaust tailpipes finish off the back-end, while LED lights, an aggressive bumper and 18-inch alloy wheels give a mesomorphic presence on the roads.
An extra 25mm has been given on the wheelbase, and the A-pillar base sits 200mm further forward compared to the previous model resulting in extra leg and shoulder room in the cabin. Smart entry with push-button start, and a high grade multifunction display with boost pressure meter monitor are just a couple of the new features which can be found.
But it is what's under the bonnet that we are really interested in. A 301bhp 2.5-litre boxer turbo engine powers the WRX STI, with a short-throw six-speed manual transmission which produces a slicker, sportier shift feel. The all-wheel drive chassis with active torque vectoring has three driving modes – Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp. Power is split 41:59 front to rear by the centre differential but there are a further five presets which can be selected if desired.
Subaru will be entering the WRX STI in the Nurburgring 24-hour race in June to show-off its racing ability on the track where Impreza-based models have previously achieved a number of class wins. The car is also due to compete in the 2014 Rally America series.
There will only be a limited number arriving in UK showrooms in May, so get in touch with Shukers today to discuss the options on the new Subaru WRX STI.
