Rubery Owen is a family-owned business that was established over 130 years ago in Darlaston in the West Midlands.
RO now operates seven group companies in a diverse range of markets. From materials testing and the design and manufacture of bespoke testing machines, battery management technology, innovative cleaning solutions, to retailing Land Rover vehicles and other models, through to the manufacturing, formulation, blending and packing of chemical liquids in north Wales.
The Company has a rich heritage and, in addition to its important commercial past, Rubery Owen has been involved in many groundbreaking projects such as the famous BRM racing team, winning the F1 Championship in 1962, and the development of Donald Campbell’s Bluebird.
The company employed 17,000 people worldwide at its height, with 5,000 skilled workers at its 74-acre site in Booth Street, Darlaston alone. Rubery Owen has been synonymous with quality and enterprise over the years. Up until the 1980’s many of the cars made in Britain would have had a Rubery Owen product in it, whether a wheel, an axle or a simple bolt.

Richard Jenkins is the fourth generation executive chairman at the helm, having taken over from John Owen in 2015.

Phoenix Materials Testing Ltd is the UK’s most diverse materials testing technology specialist, offering in-house testing, bespoke design, manufacture and support of machines and control systems.
Merlin’s services are used for testing and characterising early-stage development formulations, trouble-shooting existing formulations for production processes and bespoke testing to generate data to track quality measures/outputs by design/computer modelling projects.
Rotronics is the UK partner for both Midtronics and CTEK battery management technology and specialises in battery management solutions.
Techtron is a contract manufacturer, formulator, blender and packer of chemical liquids, specialising in putting liquids in bottles for a variety of market sectors.
